Conclusion

I chose to write about Nick Hornby because I thought I could relate to his books and writing very well. This is because his choice of topics in his writing are areas that I will and have seen or experienced. I felt being a only child and a Londoner myself I would be able to pick up especially well on the concept and ideas Hornby was trying to convey. Looking back, I still agree with my personal reasons because I have found out by reading Hornby’s work that the thirty-six year old Will Freeman has a very similar personality to me, therefore many of his thoughts aloud relate to social experiences I am having. I also felt that being an only child I understood Marcus’ experiences better, this gave me a greater insight into About a boy.

“The plain state of being human is dramatic enough for anyone; you don't need to be a heroin addict or a performance poet to experience extremity. You just have to love someone.” ― Nick Hornby, How to Be Good
